about

From the upcoming compilation By The Asuba (The complete Recordings 2007-2010).

There are probably more noise bands per capita in Montreal than anywhere else in the world. The crumbling infrastructure and corrupt municipal government find their aural analog in such music and locals gather to bask in the reflected sound world of our real world in not insignificant numbers. At the time these recordings were made hundreds of Wolf Bands roamed the earth (a big bang we can still detect the
background radiation of), an earth in the grips of the Iraq war, a still freshly post-9/11 earth, a paranoid and scared earth. Aquaped absorbed and spat out all of it in a dusty industrial basement in the Pointe St. Charles neighborhood of Montreal to the delight of almost no one. There were few shows and what shows there were were not well received. One gig at Barfly cleared the place of all but the most hardened regulars who begged the bartender to cut the power.

Aquaped was composed of one guitarist who was a drummer, another who was a bassist, a drummer who was a guitarist and a synth player who knew nothing about the mechanics of music. And yet everything was put together with precise mathematical precision. It is Noise-Rock. It is Math-Rock. It is even Prog-Rock and could be surprisingly tender in its quieter moments. It is a lost music, not heard in its time. May it be heard now.
